GAN

A Generative Adversarial Network trains two networks against each other: a Generator turns random noise into images while a Discriminator judges real from fake, each improving until the fakes pass, like a counterfeiter versus a detective. GANs dominated image generation from 2014 to 2021 and produced photoreal faces with StyleGAN, but training was unstable, prone to mode collapse, and hard to steer with text.
